"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. The Word [Jesus Christ] became flesh and made his dwelling among us" - (John 1:1,14, NIV).
Philip Yancey, in his book, Disappointed With God, tells about an experiment the great scientist Isaac Newton once conducted when he stared at the image of the sun reflected in a mirror. The brightness of the sun affected the retina in his eye and he suffered temporary blindness. Even after shutting himself away in a dark room for three days the bright spot didn't fade from his vision. Had he stared much longer, he may have permanently damaged his sight. The human eye simplycannot withstand the brilliant light of the sun.
Yancey explains how the ancient Israelites lived for many years with visible evidence of God in their midst but of all the thousands who left slavery in Egypt, only two survived seeing God's presence.
If we cannot look at the sun, how can we look directly at God? We can't and live, at least not while we are still living in our sinful condition. But we can see God in Jesus, his beloved Son, who came to earth as a man so we could come to God through him—and see God and live.
And because of Christ's sacrifice for us, one day we will see God and Jesus face to face. As Job said, "I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes."- Job 19:25-27, (NIV).
"A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones" - (Proverbs 17:22, NIV).
Science has finally caught up with these words in the Bible that King Solomon wrote some 3,000 years ago.
The following report is from The Week magazine: "Laughter is good for your health—and now scientists know why. Researchers at the University of Maryland found that when 20 healthy volunteers smiled and guffawed while watching the comedy, Kingpin, their blood flow increased by 22 percent, about the same increase caused by aerobic exercise. But when volunteers watched tension-filled scenes from Saving Private Ryan, their blood flow decreased 35 percent.
"The researchers say that laughing apparently causes the endothelium, the tissue that lines blood vessels, to expand, which increases blood flow. Laughter may also improve arterial health by reducing mental stress, which constricts vessels and cuts blood flow. A healthy lifestyle—researcher Michael Miller tells New Scientist—would include 30 minutes of exercise three times a week, and 15 minutes of hearty laughter each day."
lol :)
It's a pity that so many totally ignore God's directives for healthier, happier living. If we would live by the principles as
found in his Word, the Bible, we would not only live healthier and happier lives, but our relationships would improve out of sight. We can't improve on God's plan. The wisest thing is to get in on it.
Prayer: "Gracious Heavenly Father, thank you for the principles given in your Word so that I can know how to live a healthier and happier life, and in so living greatly enhance my relationships. So help me God to live. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, In Jesus loving Name I Pray, Amen."
