Lessons from a Pencil

As both students and teachers are headed back to school, these lessons from a pencil can help us keep our focus on what really matters!
1. It tells us that everything we do will always leave a mark.
Hebrews 11 is often called the “Hall of Faith” because of the men and women that walked in faith following God and the marks they left. We can do the same as we allow Christ to fill our lives!
2. We can always correct the mistakes we make.
I think the first thing “used up” on my pencils is the eraser! Praise God that His forgiveness can never be “used up!”
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
3. What’s inside is more important than what’s on the outside.
John 15:5 “"Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.”
2 Corinthians 4:7 “But this precious treasure -- this light and power that now shine within us -- is held in perishable containers, that is, in our weak bodies. So everyone can see that our glorious power is from God and is not our own.”
4. In life we will undergo painful times of sharpening which will make us better in what we do.
2 Corinthians 4:16-17 “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.”
James 1:2-4 Dear brothers and sisters, whenever trouble comes your way, let it be an opportunity for joy. For when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be strong in character and ready for anything.”
5. We must allow ourselves to be held and guided by the hand that holds us in order to write a great life story.
Isaiah 64:8 “And yet, LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are the potter. We are all formed by your hand.”

Everyday objects like a pencil can help remind us of God’s Truth all around us!
