But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul. Deuteronomy 4:29 (NKJV)
We are going through a devotional series titled, "The two types of Storms." These are storms - times of testing - that we will all face in our lives. Even though there is many ways that these storms can be manifested they will all fall into one of two categories, and they are:
In our last devotional we were continuing to look at, 12-Ways to deal with a "Storm." Let's continue with number six.
6. We need to anchor ourselves into "The Presence of God."
It doesn't matter whether we are going through a "Storm of Correction," or a "Storm of Perfection;" when the storm hits we need to seek the protection of being anchored in a "Safe Harbor." And that "Safe Harbor" is God.
When Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sin, at that same moment the veil in the temple that separated God from man was torn in two from top to bottom (Matt. 27:51). There was no longer a barrier separating man from God. It was through Jesus Christ's death that we have been provided a way to come directly to God. It is only through Jesus Christ that we can be saved, and it is only through Jesus Christ that we can come into the presence of God.
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6 (NKJV)
If we re going through a storm, we need to seek the Lord with all of our heart, soul and mind. We need to stay close to God and to His ways - seeking Him for our protection, provision, and guidance. Here are just a few tips for helping us to get, and stay close to God.
Spending time in the morning in prayer with God is the best way to get your day grounded. Start by simply saying, "Good Morning Lord!" God loves to hear the praises of His children, and there is no better way than to start our day with praising Him in prayer and then seeking Him for His will.
My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD; In the morning I will direct it to You, And I will look up. Psalms 5:3 (NKJV)
When we are reading The Word of God, and memorizing scripture, we are being transformed by the renewing of our minds (Rom 12:2), and we are being centered in the presence of God. God speaks to us through His Word, and it is here that we will find Him. When we have God's Word within our minds and hearts, it will keep us from doing evil.
Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You. Psalms 119:11 (NKJV)
Going to Church is a great way to come into the presence of God, as we worship the Lord in singing praise songs, and study the Word of God. We can partake in Communion to remember what Jesus did on the cross, and we can have fellowship with other believers knowing that where there are two or three gathered in His name, He is present. Let me just say this as well; we can worship the Lord anywhere and at anytime - we don't have to wait to go to church to do this - just sing a song to Him throughout the day. We are told that, "God inhabits the Praises of His people" (See Ps. 22:3).
We need to take some time out of our busy schedules and find a place that we can go and sit and just listen to God. For me personally, I find that going to the ocean and enjoying the waves allows me to reflect on His creation and His greatness. It might be a mountain hike, or a desert trek for you - it doesn't matter, just take some time to get away from your normal schedule, and stop everything and just spend some time resting and listening at His feet.
Glory in His holy name; Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the LORD! 1Chronicles 16:10 (NKJV)
Hey Christian, take some time today to seek the Lord - it doesn't have to be "Stormy" to come into His presence and to seek His comfort and care.
STUDY QUESTION: According to Deuteronomy 4:29, how do we find the Lord?
PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you taking time to seek the Lord every day?
APPLICATION: Make a time budget that allows for spending time with God each and every day.

- Storms of Correction These are the tough times where we go through trials and tests because we have unconfessed sin in our life - and we are going in a way that is not in the will of God.
- Storms of Perfection These are those times where we go through trials and tests because God loves us and He is transforming us to be more like Jesus.
