Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. Matthew 24:35 (NKJV)
Q:How much is a hundred dollar bill really worth?
A:Not anything actually, it is just an agreed upon medium used as legal tender to extinguish a debt, and Is accepted in good faith by the person who is owed. He in turn, will now use it in good faith and it will be accepted to extinguish one of his debts.
Our paper money used to be backed by gold, and every note that was printed was done so with a measure of gold placed aside to say to the note bearer that it was legal tender. And there was a guarantee to the person who possessed it that it, in fact, was worth what it was marked as.
When we look at our money today, there is no such guarantee backing it, and it is only good because we have been taught to accept it and have believed that there is worth in it. Truth be told, it is no more special than any other piece of paper. It is simply a piece of linen.
Thank God, our security is not in any form of paper or anything else for that matter other than God Himself. Anyone putting faith or stock in any material possession here on earth, including paper money is building his or her hopes upon the frailty of creation, rather than Creator, and that will eventually show itself for what it is.
Besides, there is no lasting peace for those who place their faith in a financial possession, because they are forever attempting to protect it from thieves, and lawsuits, and trying to keep from losing it. If they are able to succeed in doing that, and it remains in the bank, it still is worth less and less every passing day, because of inflation.
Whereas those of us who put our faith in God, are given something that will never be taken away!
Still it is bizarre to me how some people, by faith, consider the printing on the paper known as money to be more valuable than the printing on the paper known as the Word of God (Bible).
Q:But what really do we possess that is of any worth? And how will it be tested to see if it has any worth?
The Bible tells us that everything we do in this world will be put to a test of fire. And of all the things that we put our hand to, only those that have eternal value, things that are the work of God, they will be the only things that will last and that have any true worth.
Every selfish deed weve done will show itself for what it is. Everything that glorifies our flesh, including every physical thing that is in this world, will burn and pass away. This means every possession, every house, every car, every diamond ring, everything that has been built with any created material. Everything, except Gods Word!
Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each ones work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each ones work, of what sort it is. If anyones work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. 1Corinthians 3:12-14 (NKJV)
Gods word is a rock we can build upon. It is truth! It is life! It will live eternally. Jesus said, Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. And God is faithful to the promises contained within His Word. We can cling to His Word, and because of it, we can know of His perfect plans for our lives. And we can have peace of mind, knowing that He will do what He has promised to those who choose to abide in Him and accept His ways.
Your eternal word, O LORD, stands firm in heaven. Your faithfulness extends to every generation, as enduring as the earth you created. Psalms 119:89-90 (NLT)
Okay, knowing this, we can either choose to watch TV and stair at the reports of the stock markets plummeting and worry about our retirement plans, and our investments going away, or we can open the Word of God, and begin to put our faith in it, and start to invest into eternity by applying its precepts to our life, and sharing them with others. Now thats a solid investment, and might I add, much better than any bank.
