How Many Hairs Are on Your Head

What is the price of two sparrowsone copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So dont be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows. Matthew 10:29-31 (NKJV)

So, how many hairs do you think are on your head? Would you think a few hundred? How about a few thousand? Would you believe more than 10-thousand?

Well, no one really knows how many hairs are on your head, because every head varies. And it varies depending on what color of hair you have as well. Thats right! If you have black hair, then youll have somewhere around 110,000 hairs, which is more than a red-headed person would have. And there will be more on a brown-headed person than the black-headed person. And there are more on a blonde-headed person than the brown-headed person, with blonde averaging somewhere around 140,000 hairs. Well, if fun were measured by the quantity of how much hair we had, then maybe blondes do have more fun!

By the way, we should thank the German scientist who did the study on all this hair counting.

Q:So whats all this got to do with God, or me for that matter?

A:Well, a lot actually! Because even though it took the best scientists in the world to come up with a rough average of the amount of individual hair that is on ones head, it is God who knows exactly how many hairs that are on each of our heads. And the scriptures go on to point out that He has numbered each one of them. Thats radical! And its very exacting! Thats how much He knows about us.

Q:So why did Jesus go out of His way to make this point when He said this?

A:Because He wanted to assure us that we are going to be taken care of, no matter what we go through in life.

Thats pretty assuring for every Christian man, woman, and child living in these times. Jesus tells us that the value of a couple of sparrows was only a copper coin, and that not one of them would, or could fall to the ground without Him knowing it. That means that He would have to personally okay it before it happened. He then goes on to say, you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.

In other words, Dont worry, be happy! Or, it would be like Him saying, I got you covered!

Ah, the peace of mind in trusting in the Lord for all of our provision! There is nothing so sweet.

Even the Psalmist tells us to Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the LORD and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him and He will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. Be still in the Lord and wait patiently for Him& (Psalm 37:3-7).

And Peter gives us assurance and good counsel on this subject as well.

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. 1Peter 5:7 (NLT)

We need to remember something very important with regards to trusting God. When we carry our doubts, fears, suspicions worries, stresses and our daily struggles by ourselves, it just shows that we have not fully trusted God with our lives here on earth.

Hey Christian, it is going to take humility on our part, to recognize that:

"God cares for us
"That we need to admit our need
"That we need to allow others in the Body of believers to help us

We have a hard time believing that God cares about our troubles especially when weve done something to bring them on ourselves through our sin and foolish living; but He does. When we turn to God and repent of these mistakes, He will take them as well as any other thing that is troubling us, and He will bear the weight of them, taking that weight off of our little shoulders.

I want to encourage you to be proactive in this area of your life. Dont just think about how cool this is, and then go back to worrying. Give God your concerns and everything that is bringing anxiety in your life; dont be passive here!

We cannot submit to the circumstances that are causing these feelings of anxietyWe need to submit to the Lord, because He is the one who controls all circumstances.

Trust and obey my brothers and sisters.
