Sand Castles

But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall. Matthew 7:26-27 (NKJV)

I remember, as a child, building sand castles down at the beach. It was pretty cool to build them up, and sometimes a lot of work would be put into these makeshift works of art. But I also remember it didnt take long for them to be torn down either. Which is exactly what happened each time as the tide came in and the waves swept over them. In an instant, all the work and effort was taken down, and reduced to a foundation of shifting sand.

We see the same thing happen to the homes in the paths of strong hurricanes. For those whose foundations were not properly laid, they are swept away, and they too, will be reduced to the foundation.

We can take these two illustrations above and graft them to our lives as well, because we also build our lives on a foundation. What kind of foundation its built upon determines whether we will stand during the storms of life; those times of trials and tribulations.

Q:What type of foundation should we be building our lives upon?

A:According to the Word of God, we should be building them upon the Rock.

Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. Matthew 7:24-25 (NKJV)

Unfortunately, it is in our very nature to build our lives on the temporal things of this world, rather than building it on something of worth; something that will last for eternity. These, after all, are the two types of foundations we choose from;

1.A Temporary Foundation: based on the things of the world, so they are like the shifting sand at the beach.

2.An Eternal Foundation: based on God, and His Word, like the solid Rock of Jesus Christ.

Often times unfortunately, a foundation can be overlooked. It doesnt get the attention that the building does residing upon it. It doesnt have people commenting on it as they walk by. Most of the time it isnt even seen once the building is done, and its covered. But it is there all the time, and it will determine whether the building stands or falls.

In fact the only time you will usually see a foundation after the building has been completed, is if the building has fallen. It will remain hidden until the storm hits and does its damage. Only then, will it be revealed.

The same is true of us as men and women. When we build our foundation out of the temporal things of this world, such as our wealth, job, bodies, homes, cars, or anything else that is of this world, we are heading for disaster. It will only be a matter of time until the storms of life hit us, and wipe out everything that has been built upon this type of foundation, including the faith we put into these temporal physical things.

But when we put our faith into Christ, and we build our life upon Him, and His Word, then this life we build upon Him will be for eternal glory. We will have a peace knowing we are firmly grounded and are able to withstand any storm he allows to come our way.

Hey Christian, the storms are coming! Jesus didnt say, If the rains come down. He said, And the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house. So its not a matter of if, its a matter of when. We need to be prepared, and we need to be firmly grounded. And if we are building our life on the foundation of Jesus Christ, we need not fear these storms in our life.

Lets not be like the Sand Castles on the beach.

Dig deep today, and place your faith into the footings of Jesus Christ. He is your Rock! He is your salvation! Build upon Him&

STUDY QUESTION: What did Jesus say about the two types of foundations that we build our lives upon?

PERSONAL INVENTORY: Are you building your live upon the Rock of Jesus? Or the shifting sands of the temporal temptations of security found in the possessions of this world?

APPLICATION: Get right with God today, and dedicate your life to Him. Ask Jesus to be your Lord, and your Savior. Place your faith in what He says, not what man does.
