I remember having a guest speaker by the name of Nick Vujicic (Vooy-Cheech) come speak at our church a couple of summers ago. Nick was born in 1982 in Brisbane, Australia. Without any medical explanation or warning, Nick came into the world with neither arms nor legs. Nick aspired to do the things all the other kids were doing and he didn’t allow these disabilities to stop him from learning and accomplishing many things we would take for granted.
I remember Nick telling us how he used to go to bed praying to God for arms and legs. He would wake up in the morning and look to see if his prayers were answered, but each time he would face the reality of having no limbs. Nick finally came to the conclusion he would glorify God with what he had. Today, Nick is the president of a non-profit organization called, “Life without limbs,” and he has traveled all around the world, speaking to millions of people about Jesus.
As I heard this it made me think about how Jesus had healed a man who was blind from birth. Jesus’ disciples asked him if his blindness was due to the man’s sin, or perhaps his parent’s sin, at which Jesus responded, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.” (John 9:2-3).
Jesus had revealed something very powerful—something we should take serious note of—He had stated the man was blind from birth so the works of God should be revealed in him. In other words, God allowed this man to be blind for all these years so Jesus could be glorified in His healing.
It was the same for Nick—God had allowed him to have no limbs so Jesus could be glorified. Nick would never have been given a platform to speak to the amount of people he is sharing Christ with if he would have had limbs. I have to think this principle applies to each of us in every limitation we may face. God knows our limitations and yet He has a perfect plan for having Himself revealed through our lives if we will allow Him to use us.
I want to encourage you to mediate upon these things today. Let’s choose to glorify God with whatever we have and allow Him to provide what is needed.
